I'm definitively keen on going down for some rock-climbing/drinking at Pynes Ford, and another awesome New Years around Takaka (Mussel Inn?) would be cool! :-P and maybe also keen on the Stewart Island trip...

Re: Save the fish!

Hey!

I'd love that it works, though I don't think that's very useful. Why? Well, as far as I know, it is being widely demonstrated that subsidising fishing fleets (regardless of what these subsidies aim) it's been a complete failure. Thus, in the EU (as you talk about Euros) there's currently a new Fishing Policy which clearly discourages any kind of subsidies, however, this is not equally implemented among all the European countries. But the most important thing is that all the 'fishing nations' have billateral agreements with most, if not all, the developing countries. This is something that I believe the WTO is very unlikely change... Another big problem in fisheries management is what is known as IUU fishing (Illegal Unreported and Unregulated fishing) in which unfortunately, Spain is one of the leading countries.

I don't think that the WTO is going to very helpful in improving the state of world fisheries (I actually doubt that it's even really interested in doing so). Finally, given that New Zealand is a leading country in bottom trawling -which not only depletes the fishing stocks but also completely destroys all the marine ecosystems where it takes place- do you really believe that whoever is the trade minister cares about sustainable fisheries? It would be really good if just by writing a letter we can "save the fish" but things are more difficult than that. However, it's good that you guys care about 'the fish' and the oceans in general, and it's better to try something than nothing at all!!

Wharepapa-Froggats

Hi there!

Finally, the trimester is almost over, to celebrate it i'm planning to meet Ben somewhere in the North(probably Stratford) and go to the Wharepapa area to do some rock climbing.

I'm thinking in leaving Welli either Friday afternoon or Saturday, because probably it won't be possible to climb until Sunday(as the weather isn't looking very good) and coming back on Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

I'll be at the meeting this evening, so if anyone is keen just let me know!

Cheers,

Well, if anyone is keen in going to Tinui to climb, call the landowner with SEVERAL DAYS IN ADVANCE!! as we called on the same morning and she didn't allowed us to climb in "her rocks" cause we were supposed to call with some days in advance.... Anyway, the reports about Tinui i've been reading(mojozone forum) weren't really good, so we end up climbing in Baring Head. The routes are quite hard, except the supposed 19 which is really easy. The bolts are quite good and it's very easy to set up top-ropes, so we were able to practice some of the 21...And this is really good to know: you don't have to cross the river anymore!!

Cheers,

How ist it going? I'm sure that much better than me (bloody Postgraduate!).

Well, finally it looks that i can have a day off from my studies and Ben and me (and maybe Kate too) are probably going to do some rock climbing!! We are thinking in checking how is the slab climbing in Tinui, it seems that it takes around 1h to get to the wall(from wherever you live the car) and the bolts are supposed to be quite dodgy, so i hope we don't get kill...

Anyway, i still don't know what time we are leaving and anything but if there's somebody else keen in coming just let me know and i'll get in touch as soon as i know the details!

Cheers,

I'm really busy with the uni stuff...Anyway, i'm seriously thinking in taking part on this competition, though it's been a while since the last time i went climbing...Anyway, if i don't see you at the party, and it's all right that i join this grate climbing team, send me the details!

Cheers,
