I know that's the case with the top of the invert slab and the top of the bulge on the overhang. It's because when they revamped the rec centre they shafted us a bit and took half the t-nuts out which means we can't screw holds in those places. I had various meetings with them but got no where... am sure you can move the holds around that are there though and put up some new routes to keep things interesting :)

As for solving the t-nut problem, to get your point across I propose a sit in where you camp over night and drink beer in the boulder room perhaps chanting loudly in protest....

Re: Climbing - Easter Weekend!!! Anyway, just a heads up I don't think they are letting people stay in the Woolshed anymore unless your a group who has booked ahead with them eariler and are doing other activities etc at Castle Rock. No doubt the fabulous school camp site is still avalible though :)

Have a fab time climbing everyone and someone drink a Double Brown or 6 for me!

Kate here, been out of the loop for awhile but hope all the club crazyness is still at a high level and no one is slacking off the Double Brown drinking in my absence, anyway, was just wondering what peoples plans are after New Years? I'll be in Takaka probably New Years day or the 2nd depending if I get destroyed paddling around Murchison or not and am keen for climbing and other associated fun stuff if people will still be around for awhile after new years? Have heard some people are off to the Olivines but was just wondering if there will be any stragglers keen for some more time climbing in hippyville with me :)

flick me an email if your keen as am not on the site much - Katherine.McKenzie@vuw.ac.nz

Blurbridge is running a student special until the end of Nov of $60 for a student and their car and $55 for any additional students. This doesn't run on Labour weekend but if you were kinda flexible and could leave slightly before you'd save a heap.

In terms of transport around South, not sure if they run in the area, but K-bus is pretty cheap and definatley worth the adventure of getting to experience their vehicles and drivers for any period of time :)

Hope it works out for you!

Yeah I'd be super keen too, been meaning to get down there for awhile, no idea where I'll be there or what I'll be doing but would be keen to tag along if possible (and if I'm not too broke!)

good to hear theres more people into climbing joining the club :) The club does have ropes around that are suitable for leading, they're not usually lent out however and are used mainly on trips. There is definatley the possibility of bringing one down to fergs on Wednesday night (thats our usual climbing night too) for you guys to use though. The best thing to do would be to come along to a meeting or arrange to meet up with someone at fergs just so the gear people etc know who you are, then you could sort out borrowing one weekly or something :)

happy climbing :)

kate

Re: Bouldering outdoors,around wellington?

Hey,

Yeah as Nicolai says, Baring Head is probably your best bet for bouldering around Welly, for more directions and an idea of what type of climbing it is try http://www.cactusclimbing.co.nz/powerband/guides/baring.html. Theres a few bolted routes there too but is largely boulders. As the site says, be a bit wary of when you go, purely as if theres a decent southerly blowing it is like having the back of your legs sand blasted.....

Furthur around the coast is another real up and coming bouldering area which is receiving alot of attention, Turakirae Head, access takes a bit longer but seems well worth it for the problems they have there, again the same site provides a bit of a guide as to what there which is quite sweet http://www.cactusclimbing.co.nz/powerband/guides/topos/turakirae/one.htm

Both are awesome and in close driving distance to welly, you can camp there but be wary of leaving important stuff in your car at the carpark, theres not much to do in Wainui at night....

have fun - Kate :)
