This was the first official trip of the year for VUWTC. Bussing to Walls Whare on the Friday night, arriving at about 8pm, after setting up fly’s and cooking some light dinner, the casks came out, Craig quickly getting around making himself known as quite the socializer. A few drinks later, and a few more for some others, the once awkward conversations were gone. At one stage I was watching two Americans fight over chuck Norris vs. Stephen Segal. This was only the tip on the second night. Saturday walking up the flats track stopping for lunch at bolder stream? We pitched tent at the bottom of the flats at about 2pm. After a few hours the whole group was in, now grouping around the fire, Regan single handily assembled seats and all. Dinner (nachos) with bugger all mince, thanks guys, and a few more drinks was quickly putting the demons of the first night to rest. Something along the lines of more drinking, a good fire, marshmallows (not smores) and apparently a midnight dip but *** somehow I managed to miss that. Sunday the group set off in stages, across the flats, past the hut and up totara stream for a gentle stroll to the head waters of that creak, then a rather decent climb for some up to the intersection of pig flat and holds worth road end. A gentle decent down a gravel path, note with some rather amazing scenery of the valley below Powel. Ending with a bbq and a few brave, or stupid, ones went for another swim, while most enjoyed not using a bush and the left hand. Snapped a few good pics along the way.
