Hello guys that is right, the club has most specialist gear and we do lend it for free. However club gear is only lent for club trips and we do not usually lend for private trips. So it you are planning on doing private trips while here it would be best to bring your own gear.

Just as another note for people coming from North America and are thinking about buying when you get here, gear is really expensive here, particularly climbing gear from my experience it is often 200% 300% more than North American prices

Hey! nice to hear from soon to arrive climbers!

The club has ice axes and crampons available to borrow free (for members) but these are mostly non technical so if you have steep ice gear its worth somehow packing in. (Bearing in mind also that ice in NZ usually is far enough out of the way that we camp/ cave at the ice, so all the cold weather paraphernalia is needed aswell)

Rope wise, we have plenty of singles and a double set. So, not essential to bring those.

Rock wise, the club has hexes and nuts, bring your pick of cams if you own any. Draws are not essential, we have heaps unless you have light extendables and screamers, those are both in shorter supply.

We have helmets, but not alot of modern ones.

Basically, the club has everything, but for anything particularly specialist it is worth having your own gear. Im sure Craig (Gear boss) will have more to say on the subject, and possibly enlighten me to new gear recently purchased :)

Hey everyone, I'm heading over from the US to spend a semester or two at Victoria and was wondering if i should bring all my climbing gear including crampons, ropes, etc. or if through the club we can borrow stuff/rent stuff for fairly cheap. Airlines suck and it may be tough to bring alot of gear so if someone could let me know that would be great. Look forward to climbing with you all!
