I'm planning a tramp into the Ruahines this weekend - just 3 days, but leaving (and walking 2-3 hours) Friday night. It won't be too hard (5-6 hours a day, only one hill per day too I promise!), but should still be a fun trip with a mixture of tops travel and valleys. If you want to look at the maps the rough plan is:

Friday night: drive to road end (west side) and walk up to Purity Hut (2-3 hours).

Saturday: head up to Iron Peg, along ridge and down to Pourangaki Hut in the valley.

Sunday: up to tops (end of Whanahuia range) and back down to Kelly Knight hut.

Monday: up to tops and down past Purity Hut to road end.

Could be done in reverse if weather looked better later on in the weekend. Also there's a possible side trip to waterfall hut for the keen and fit. Flick me an email at patonomatic@gmail.com or talk to me tonight if you want to come along! Sounded like there were quite a few keen, so should be a good trip!

Cheers,

Kieran

A couple of us are planning on taking a trip to the south island this Labour weekend for some moderate tramping. Areas that we are thinking about are Richmond, Nelson Lakes, Paparoa’s or Kahurangis (of course it will only be one of them)

So it will either be going from Thursday night to Monday night or Friday night to Tuesday night
