The scenery is amazing, with the possibility of ridges, valleys and everything inbetween. Being the middle of winter, there will also be snow. Last time we had mid winter at Nelson Lakes, we managed to get an evening of curling!

Mid Winter is a rewarding trip and well worth going if you can.

So that everyone can handle snow travel, we will have an alpine instruction course on the weekend of 18-19 June. AIC will cover how to use an ice axe and crampons, how to self arrest (stop yourself from sliding down the side of a mountain) if you fall over on a slope.

For a list of gear that is required for Mid Winter, see the gear list. Additional gear to note that is required is Gloves, Sun Glasses, Overtrousers. The club will provide ice axes and crampons.

Email me if you want to come on mid winter, or if you have any questions about the trip.

See you on Mid Winter!
