Just a reminder to let Hazel know by email if you are interested in coming tramping into a lesser traveled part of the Tararuas this long Labour holiday weekend to Carkeek Hut, one of two Tararua huts that the Club is guardian and a hut with much Club history, making Carkeek a truly special place.

The plan is to head into Holdsworth road end on Friday night and then head up to Jumbo Hut, about 3-4 hours walk for the night, and from there onto the tops on Saturday. We will be returning to Wellington on Monday night. There may also be a car heading in early on Saturday morning.

Please advise Hazel on your fitness and whether you are a vegetarian so that groups can be assigned. Please also let us know if you have a car should it be needed.

If you are interested in going climbing instead, Ollie is taking interest and from there organising a possible climbing trip to make full use of the long weekend. Please email or contact Ollie directly about this if you are interested.

Carkeek Tramp on Labour Weekend

Hey Everyone,

The plan for Labour weekend is to head to Carkeek hut for a decent weekend's tramp. Carkeek is the remotest hut in the Tararuas and, as if that isn't enough reason to go there, it's also one of VUWTC's huts. We'll be leaving on Friday night and coming back on Monday night to make the most of the long weekend.

Let me know if you're interested (preferably send me a private message or email to avoid spamming everyone) and we'll go from there. Also let me know if you have a particular route preference - current plans are to head in from Holdsworth, but there are a variety of posible options.
