I found this in a facebook page, might be of interest to club people:

Come and celebrate the last Tuesday before Uni starts with a bonfire at Makara Beach!! The majority will be meeting at the Hunter Carpark at uni at 5:30pm and heading off to the beach. The usual meeting will also be at 7:30pm at the Welsh Dragon Bar then we will go to Makara at 8:15ish (instead of Tacos). If you have a vehicle, please bring it we may be pushed for spaces.

a wikipedia article on VUWTC?

Hi there!

I wonder why there is no wikipedia article about the VUWTC. Let's write one!

All recent members: What would you like to know/being said about the club?

All old members: Do you have some piece of 92 years (?) club history worth writing up?
Do you have publications/sources we can quote?

What about the huts once built/maintained? Were there disasters in the past? Are there famous former members (apart from our presidents)? Are there other long standing institions related to the club (FMC)?

How to start? If you are a good article writer, do the first sketch!

If you are just keen, but no good except for writing a post (like me), reply here or send your contribution to me (email: Achim dot Gaedke at gmail dot com). I will get the infos into the growing article, just after coming back from the mid-winter trip.

Come and celebrate the end of the trimester with the club this tuesday! After the meeting we will be having a dessert night.

You will need to bring:

Something to contribute; chocolate, a cake, fruit salad...anything dessert-y.

A bowl and spoon (tramping bowl and spoon would be perfect!)

The club will provide a limited number of bowls and spoons, as well as some ice-cream.

The title of this year Summer Shakespeare presented by the Victoria University of Wellington.

If you would like to be a bit more cultural than the Welsh Dragon next Tuesday the 21st then come along to the Botanical garden and be entertained with good acting and summer fun :o)

The play starts at 7pm so we meet at the Dell, Wellington Botanic Garden at 6.15pm.
The tickets are $15 (full) or $10 (concession) and can be booked through Downstage (04 801 6946 or bookings@downstage.co.nz) or bought on the night at the door.

The plan is to join Taco Tuesday after the play, which will be at 88 Glenmore st.

See you Tuesday hopefully at the Wellington Botanic Garden or alt least later at Taco Tuesday ;o)

End of year dinner

Hey VUWTC-er's

We are in the process of organising an end of year dinner. At this stage we're hoping to have it next Tuesday at the same time as we would have the meeting, (this way we'd be able to have normal club business such as the sign ups for the Mitre Peak trip next weekend). We will also be having the "Billy Awards" which include:

- Tramper of the year

- Most promising new member of the year

- Most Geographically embarrassed of the year

- Climber of the year

- Piker of the year

If you would like to come along please reply to this post ASAP or email me at theelusivemailbox@gmail.com so that we have an idea of numbers. Please try let me know by Saturday so that we can confirm a venue and let them know how many will be coming. Also say if you have any dietry requirements/are vegetarian etc.

This is just across the road from the Welsh Dragon and will start at 7:30, same as the normal meeting time.

Come along to find out who will win the Billy Awards, to celebrate the end of the year, and also to sign up for this weekends trip to Mitre Peak.

Come for a night of drinking, camping and bonfires. For those wishing to stay for more than just the night, the Waiohine Gorge also has a lot to offer such as tramping, walking, sight seeing, hunting and trout fishing.

After almost a years worth of training it would be good to catch up with you all! If the weather looks bad, I'll organize a catch up somewhere dry in Wellington.

Guy Fawkes at Palliser

Hi all,

Next weekend (5th-6th Nov) we will be having a Guy Fawkes celebration at Cape Palliser.

For those of you who have not been to Palliser before it's somewhat of a tramping club tradition and generally involves fire, beer and general tramping club antics of all forms.
It's only a short walk from the roadend and there is a waterfall and stream to swim in, if the weather/sea allows it there is the opportunity of swimming in the sea/gathering paua.
We shall be leaving on Saturday (usually this happens at various times with people arriving throughout the day).

I myself am quite busy with study at the moment so I will be heading out to Palliser some time just after lunchtime on Saturday and heading back to wellington earlyish Sunday, however I am sure that there will be people staying on to have a relaxed Sunday lounging about (hopefully) in the sun in case you want to come back later.

Reply here, or come to the meeting next Tuesday (Tuesday 1st November).

Please bring a tent if you have one, drinks, food and fireworks.

Hey Guys,

We still need to get the majority of the shelving out of the old gear shed and install it into the new one so this Sunday there will be a tramping club working bee to get the new shed in order.

Snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the day by the club to anyone helping out.

If you have a battery powered drill and (imperial) spanners or socket sets, bring them along as it speeds up taking apart the shelves.

I propose a meeting time of 11am at the old gear shed on Waiteata Rd

The clubs 90th Anniversary

So your tramping club is 90 years old this year!! To celebrate we are planning a line up of great things. For a start we are having a major event on the evening of Friday the 22^nd of July in the form a reunion for current and ex VUWTCers followed up by a raging party (in typical VUWTC style).
