Tramping in the Kawekas

Our first blog on the vuwtc website must inevitably be about tramping.

We had a nice trip in the Kawekas at Labour weekend. A crew of 8 headed up to Middle Hill Hut then over the tops to Tira Lodge for the night. Some of the group were eager for a mission, so Richie, Hannah and Joe headed west off the ridge in search of bush, bivs, and rivers. The rest of the group made a beeline for the hot pools and that trout that would fit perfectly in my belly.

There were a few people at the hot springs, but not quite the crowds we were expecting. The rain through the night seemed to flush most people away, and we were alone in the campsite when we finally got out of pit.

Long drive home.
